The German Parliament adopted a new law (Federal Act on Corporate Due Diligence Obligations in Supply Chains) protecting human rights and the environment in supply chains on 11 June 2021. The new Due Diligence Act is also known as the “Supply Chain Act”. This legislation is based on the United Nations Guiding Principles (UNGP) for Business and Human Rights that have provided a voluntary set of standards for human rights due diligence. The Act imposes a binding obligation on companies to establish, implement and update due diligence procedures to improve compliance with specified core human rights and environmental protection in supply chains.
